Global Thermostat recently unveiled what it says is the largest operating direct air capture plant in the U.S. and the second largest in the world.
CPR’s Sam Brasch was there for the ribbon cutting, headlined by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Gov. Jared Polis. The machine looks like a cube-shaped house without any windows and works by drawing air over honeycombed bricks coated with a proprietary solvent that removes CO2. That carbon can be siphoned off and used for other industrial processes or stored underground.
